Oak

Description

When you receive a solid wood table from us, we recommend that you leave the furniture in its original packaging at room temperature for 3 days after receiving the furniture, so that it can acclimatise.

As standard, all our wooden parts are made of solid oak. Wood is a natural material that can be affected by changing humidity, direct sunlight and normal wear and tear. Our tables are basically treated with oil, but in connection with you taking your new table into use, we recommend that you finish the table with more oil. We do not sell the recommended oil, but it is widely available in the retail trade. We use oils from Junckers, which you can read more about in our materials guide.

Maintenance & care

Here we explain what you as a customer should be aware of when choosing a solid oak table:

The nature of oak as a living material

- Solid oak (and solid wood in general) is a natural material that is affected by humidity, temperature and light. Low humidity (approx. below 30%) can lead to cracks, while high humidity (approx. above 60%) can cause warping. Direct sunlight and placement close to heat sources such as radiators or air-conditioning units should be avoided, as this can dry out the wood and cause cracks. Placement in rooms with large temperature fluctuations should also be avoided.

 Maintenance

- If you have purchased one of our tables with a standard oil finish,
oil treatment must be carried out regularly to protect the wood from drying out and cracking. It is recommended to maintain your furniture several times a year, especially in the first months after purchase, and to use the right care products to maintain the wood’s protection.

 Changes over time

- Solid oak (and solid wood in general) transforms slightly over time and can change dimensions depending on the seasons. For example, a solid oak table top can expand or contract by up to 2-3% of its width due to changes in humidity.

 Disclaimer

- Natural variations in the wood, such as color differences, knots and small cracks, are not considered defects, but part of the unique characteristics of the wood. Improper maintenance or placement in unfavorable environments can lead to damage that is not covered by the warranty.

Maintenance tips:

- Use a damp cloth without detergent for daily care. Or use cleaning products specially designed for solid wood.

- Avoid exposing the wood to direct sunlight or heat from radiators or other heat sources, which in the worst case can cause the wood to split.

- Avoid placing hot or moist objects directly on the furniture or covering it with airtight material.

- We do not recommend partially covering the surfaces as this may cause color differences across the surface.

- In the event of nicks, splinters or stains, these can be removed by sanding and subsequent oil treatment of the furniture.

- If the wood “rises”, we recommend taking the back of a piece of sandpaper and running it lightly over the entire surface. Finish with the respective oil with which you bought the table. Contact info@eberhart-furniture.com if you are in doubt about which oil to use.

- We recommend oiling the furniture 4-6 times the first year and then at least twice a year, preferably before and after the winter season.

If you’re unsure of the maintenance of your oak tabletop, please send us an email:  info@eberhart-furniture.com.
