Light Oak

About the material

We use “Nordic” oil by Junkers, which does not stain the wood, but rather gives it a natural, authentic appearance. The wood appears as untreated or soaped oak.

Solid oak is a natural material that is affected by humidity, temperature and light. Natural variations such as colour differences, knots and small cracks are part of the unique character of the wood and are not considered defects.

* We recommend that you leave the table in its original packaging at room temperature for 24 hours after receiving the table. This is to acclimate.

Daily Care

Use a damp cloth without detergent for daily cleaning. Alternatively, use cleaning products specially designed for solid wood.

Avoid direct sunlight, radiators, air-conditioning units and other heat sources, as they may dry out the wood and cause cracks.

Avoid placing hot or moist objects directly on the furniture. Do not cover the furniture with airtight material.

We recommend oiling the furniture 4-6 times the first year and then at least twice a year, preferably before and after the winter season.

We do not recommend partially covering the surfaces as this may cause color differences across the surface.

You'll need

Clean, dry cotton cloths

Fine sanding sponge or fine sandpaper

Oil (light oak / matching tone)

Optional: gloves

Step-By-Step

- Lightly sand the surface following the grain of the wood.

-Remove sanding dust with a dry cloth, and wipe the tabletop with a cloth dampened with lukewarm water, then let it dry completely. This helps the wood open slightly and absorb the oil better.

- Shake the oil well and put on gloves if needed. Pour a small amount of oil onto the centre of the table and spread it evenly.

- Work in small amounts - less is better than too much. Apply the oil in gentle, cirular motions.

- Wipe off excess oil following the grain to ensure an even finish.

- Use the remaining oil on the cloth to wipe the edges. Add a little more oil if needed.

* Important: As the final step: wipe the underside as well - a little more than a hand’s width in from the edge.

Important Note

* In the event of nicks, splinters or stains, these can be removed by sanding and subsequent oil treatment of the furniture.

* If the wood “rises”, we recommend taking the back of a piece of sandpaper and running it lightly over the entire surface. Finish with the respective oil with which you bought the table.

* Solid oak (and solid wood in general) is a natural material that is affected by humidity, temperature and light. Low humidity (approx. below 30%) can lead to cracks, while high humidity (approx. above 60%) can cause warping. Direct sunlight and placement close to heat sources such as radiators or air-conditioning units should be avoided, as this can dry out the wood and cause cracks. Placement in rooms with large temperature fluctuations should also be avoided.

* Solid oak (and solid wood in general) transforms slightly over time and can change dimensions depending on the seasons. For example, a solid oak table top can expand or contract by up to 2-3% of its width due to changes in humidity.

* Natural variations in the wood, such as color differences, knots and small cracks, are not considered defects, but part of the unique characteristics of the wood. Improper maintenance or placement in unfavorable environments can lead to damage that is not covered by the warranty.
